Breast cancer has probably affected somebody close to all of us. Personally it has touched my family and several of my very dear and close friends. Let's make this a happy, pink thread, dedicated to raising awareness, and hope for a cure. Pink is the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month's associated color. During the month of October, many charities and organizations conduct various awareness activities and campaigns. The month of October is intended to raise public awareness,

funds for breast cancer research into the cause, prevention and cure of the disease, as well as provide

vital information and support to those affected by breast cancer

The pink ribbon is the symbol for breast cancer awareness. Created in 1991, it stands for awareness and the spirit that will help women survive and conquer this disease. It is now being adopted internationally to promote breast cancer awareness. During October, the most significant activity to show your care is the wearing of pink ribbons. It demonstrates your support and also provides a reminder to women to be more aware of their breast health Breast Cancer is a killer on the rise.

It is estimated that 1 in 9 women will contract this deadly disease.

Witch Hunt = Making false accusations against a large number of people.

Let's take a trip back in time for a moment, shall we?

The year is 1500. Thousands of your friends, relatives, and even enemies are being tortured, hung, burned and worse. Your local 'church' says that it's in the name of God to protect others from the devil's ways, but you're not sure you totally agree with what's going on. Now stop for a moment. Answer these questions:

1.) Do you have a birthmark, mole, disfigurement, or do you even have a pimple?

2.) Are you a liberal type?

3.) Do you like to dance?

4.) Do you have a pet cat, mouse, snake, or goat?

5.) Do you own a broom?

6.) Do you speak out against what you don't believe is right?

7.) Do you sometimes give your husband or mother grief or do you "obey his/her every command like you should?"

8.) Have you ever had any enemies or just someone who didn't think highly of you?

9.) Have you ever lived near someone that lost their job? Had a pet that died? Had a bad crop? Had a family member that died? That got sick?

10.) Have you ever gone out for a walk by yourself after nightfall?

11.) Has there ever been a hailstorm or even a wicked thunderstorm in the same area that you live?

Answering yes to just one of these questions would have gotten you tried, persecuted, tortured and either hung or burned at a stake between the dates of 1100-1700. Men, women, children, the elderly, the crippled and even pets, all ended up as victims during the Witch Craze (aka The Burning Times and Witch Hunts/Craze). More middle-aged women than any other were tortured and killed though.

During the times when man was just discovering and concurring "new frontiers", fears began to develop of the unknown that lie ahead in these "new worlds". These fears lead to the largest global killing spree on any scale. Many refute that the Burning times all started with the two girls who claimed they were "bewitched". But in fact, the start of the hatred towards Pagans, Wiccans, and Witches started far, far earlier during the renaissance period. When the Christians first arrived on the British shores, they encountered the Pagans and their rituals. At first they worshipped side by side, but in time the Christians realized that the Pagans had a much larger following than them so they decided that something needed to be done to get more followers of Christ in their churches. Pagan Sabbats were starting to be broken up by groups of people against their ways. Pagan temples were being destroyed, and eventually all of the beautiful ways, practices and the worshipping of the Old Gods was outlawed. The Pagan God was perverted into the depiction of the Christian Devil to scare away others from "the temptation of those heathen practices". Celebrations that turned into Christian Holidays were conveniently dated close and even on the same date to Pagan Sabbats to further deter others from going to the gatherings. Pagan followers had to practice in secret and seclusion. They were no longer sure of who they could trust with their true feelings. Eventually, the old clans split up in fear of being caught and they moved far away from the newcomers. The Christians had the law on their side and they kept a very watchful eye on their congregation. Anyone with thoughts, notions, or opinions different than that of the teachings of Christ were shamed, teased, persecuted and forced to leave or be jailed. Fear and hatred started to breed...one thing lead to another and the Witch Craze was starting to happen.

The most infamous Witchcraft Trials was the Salem Witchcraft Trials in Salem, Massachusetts in 1692. Although only 30 were killed there, it was ironic how a "fresh start in a New World" ended up as a killing spree on innocent victims. Reasoning in the trials in the New World included political tensions, land related grievances, disease and religious repression. Because of the strict religious society of the time, with it's adamant upbringing of children to follow the Bible, it created a very strong belief in the Devil. (By this time the Christians and Catholics had already done a "great job" of spreading the word that the Pagan God was actually the Devil in the Bible.) So it only took the hysterics of two young girls (Elizabeth Parris and Abigail Williams), one of them was the daughter of Rev. Samuel Parris, to start off the madness of the Witch Hunts there. The two girls became interested in the magickal culture of a West Indian slave named Tituba, who incidentally was "owned" by Rev. Parris. They started doing divinations about future husbands, and various other things. When some of the towns people caught them in the act of doing some of the divination techniques on their own, they quickly claimed they were bewitched to do it to save their butts. Tituba, Sarah Good and Sarah Osborne were the first named by the two girls and arrested as the perpetrators of their "bewitchment" on February 29, 1692. From that point on, neighbors and friends instantly became back-stabbers and foes.

In the year 1233, Pope Gregory IX instituted the Roman Catholic Inquisition in an attempt to gain popularity for Catholicism and his church. In 1320, Pope John XXII requested that the church officially declare Witchcraft, and the Old Religion of the Pagans, as a "heretical movement" and a "hostile threat" to Christianity.

The single most influential piece of propaganda that fueled their campaign was commissioned by Pope Innocent VIII in 1484 . He instructed the Dominican monks, Heinrich Kraemer and Jacob Sprenger, to publish a manual for Witch-hunters. Two years later the Malleus Malificarum, or "The Witches' Hammer" was produced. The manual was used for the next 250 years in the church's attempt to destroy the Old Religion.

"He must not be too quick to subject a witch to examination, but must pay attention to certain signs which will follow. And he must not be too quick for this reason: unless God, through a holy Angel, compels the devil to withhold his help from the witch, she will be so insensible to the pains of torture that she will sooner be torn limb from limb than confess any of the truth. But the torture is not to be neglected for this reason, for they are not equally endowed with this power, and also the devil sometimes of his own will permits them to confess their crimes without being compelled by a holy Angel."

In 1541, Witchcraft was made an illegal offense in England, and in 1604 a law decreeing capital punishment for Witches and Pagans was adopted. Forty years later, the New England colonies also made death the penalty for the suspicion of Witchcraft. By this time, the true followers who remained loyal to the Old Religion were in hiding and Witchcraft had turned into a secret underground religion after an estimated one million people had been put to death in Europe and more than thirty condemned at Salem, Massachusetts, in the name of Christianity.

A clip from the book of Exodus states, "Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live". This quote, alone, sealed the fate for many of the accused as well as the true followers of the Olde Ways. However, this is a false translation. What has been translated as "witch" comes from the Hebrew chaspah, a "poisoner" or murderer. The verse can be reinterpreted to mean not to tolerate people who poison--or murderers. This is very different from condoning the brutal murder of witches. Regardless, the witch hunters were able to claim the backing of God in their tasks, and the support of towns folk that would not question their methods.

The reasoning behind why the Witch Hunters were so interested in their "work" was largely due to their financial gain. The estate of a convicted witch was confiscated, and so more witches would mean more wealth. Torturers, executioners, and others involved in the persecutions benefited as well. The costs of torturing, imprisoning, and executing the accused came from the accused�s own purse. Additional money was made from the selling of charms and amulets to ward of the curses of witches; and even a person who did not buy such a trinket would fall under suspicion.

Finally in 1711, the General Court reversed twenty-two of the thirty-one convictions. It was not until 1957 that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts reversed the remaining guilty verdicts finally acknowledging the errors of Salem Witchcraft Trials.

Unfortunately, when the persecutions finally ended in the 18th century, the stereotype of Witches, Wiccans, and Pagans as devil worshippers, murderers, etc, sadly remained for those who practiced within the true teachings of Witchcraft.

Being A Animal Activist And A Veterinarian I Felt Compelled To Post This Information..!

Halloween is a lot of fun for people of all ages.

For children, it means dressing up as ghosts, goblins, witches, and skeletons, enthusiastic trick-or-treating, scary stories and old-fashioned but perennially popular games like bobbing for apples. For grown-ups as well as kids, it can mean enjoying mock haunted houses and decorating yards and homes with jack-o�-lanterns and images of bats and black cats.

This holiday is cherished for much the same reasons horror movies are so thrilling: the danger is pretend. Unfortunately, for some of the small, furry, four-footed creatures that share our world, this season is one that threatens in a way that is all-too-real. The long association of witches and the occult with black cats means that not only are their paper likenesses harmlessly hung on walls but that some emotionally disturbed people �sacrifice� them around this time. David DeWitt, Public Relations Director for Fulton County Animal Services in Georgia, explains, �I know that around the country,

There are more cases of animal abuse involving black cats around Halloween.�

Another problem for black cats around Halloween is the tendency of people to think of them as gifts appropriate to the holiday. �A lot of shelters around the country will not adopt out black cats around the time leading up to Halloween,� DeWitt elaborates, �just like many shelters won�t adopt out rabbits in the time leading up to Easter because people give them out as a party favor and the animal is either neglected, abused or returned.� Fulton County Animal Services attempts to minimize the chances of that happening to its felines. �Like most shelters around the country we carefully screen potential adopters,� DeWitt says.

�We want people to adopt them who have the resources and the motivation to give animals food and love and veterinary care.� No system is foolproof, however, since �obviously people [applying to adopt an animal] aren�t going to say they�re planning to sacrifice it at Halloween.� People with at-risk felines in their households should be properly protective of them. �We would encourage people to keep black cats indoors and be extra responsible for them,� DeWitt says, �because there is more danger to them at this time of the year.

There are some wackos out there so it�s better to be safe than sorry.�

Those with canine companions should also be on the alert. �People who want to sacrifice or torture animals will do dogs as well as cats,� DeWitt comments. �You might hear more about cats because people let them roam.�

Kerry Moyers-Horton is project manager for No More Homeless Pets Atlanta. Her group does not have a policy specifically forbidding the adopting out of black cats in October. �We don�t usually adopt out animals for third party adoptions because a lot of people don�t want an animal,� she says, �although we may in some cases depending on the situation.� The possibility of any kind of animal mistreatment �is always a concern so we never adopt out an animal without doing a home visit first. We inspect the premises and talk to the people and have an extensive application for them to fill out. W never jump into anything without knowing who the person is and what his or her situation is.�

The creative and high-spirited festivity that makes up Halloween is a true delight. However, the sometimes sad realities of the human condition are such that we also need to be aware of its genuine hazards. The domesticated animals that share our world depend on those of us humans who possess good will and common sense.

SIGHT TELEPATHY

Your eyes - More than a Camera

Three hundred years ago, modern science took a quantum leap forward in

understanding sight, with the research and ideas of Descartes. The

diagram used in part one of this series shows his observations, and

how he believed an image was 'caught'' by the eyes, then sent from the

optic nerve inside the brain. He also believed the soul, which sits

inside the brain, then watches these images from little screens which

are at the ends of the optic nerves.

Behind the scenes

The research of Canada and Torsten Wiesel from Sweden, working

together in Boston during the 70's, show the eyes were indeed more

than a camera. It is in the back of the eyes that the process of

changing light rays into personal electronic impulses takes place. In

any creature found on earth that has eyes, in the back of the eyes are

where you will find the cells that relate the incoming image to the

brain. Different cells in certain animals are what gives them their

various "talents" with sight. For example, in cats, the back of their

eyes have cells which reflect back 50% more light to the front of the

eye (the iris) than in humans - which is why a cat can see so much

better in the dark.

In many of the reported sight telepathic cases, the people describe

part of the experience as having a 'warm' feeling in the back of their

eyes. This would indicate that the cells in the back of the eyes are

working harder, or are receiving more energy than normal. In either

case, to develop your sight telepathy abilities, the back of the eyes

will be a part of your body where your attention and exercises will

need to focus.

Besides 'rods' and 'cones' (the cells that help us distinguish between

black and white and color, respectively), we also have relay cells in

the back of the eye whose work is more brain like. Known as ganglion

cells, they gather in the signals from many light sensitive cells in

the retina, and then fire an electronic "code" of impulses to the

brain based on the patterns of light it receives. It is here that

outside light is converted into one's own personal brain signals.

Light

In ancient times, there were many cultures that believed seeing was

the result of rays being sent OUT of our eyes to the surfaces around

us.. Today we know that seeing has to do with rays of energy that

ENTER the eye: light rays. When you look at an object, you are seeing

the light rays that have bounced OFF that object. The common active

element with eyesight systems in all creatures is light. Light then,

and it's properties, give us some insight as to some of the

characteristics of sight telepathy.

If sight telepathy occurs when visual contact is made, it may be that

telepathy impulses (or thoughts) travel ON the light rays that enter

our eyes. This would suggest then, that both forms of telepathy (sight

and global), have light as a medium to travel on. (As you remember

from earlier, global telepathy shares many properties with light as

well, for example, the speed at which both travel).

If we receive telepathic signals on light rays, that indicates we

probably send them on light rays as well. (This also may show that

perhaps there was a bit of truth to the ancients idea that an energy

rays flow out of the eyes as well).

Before sending your thoughts

Sight telepathy is not common since we are not taught how communicate

in this way. Like any other language, an early age is the best time to

develop your communicate skills. Since most young children at not even

introduced to the idea of telepathy, few probably even understand the

may have experienced naturally.

To send your thoughts requires first the belief that you are able to

do so. Many accounts have been documented of subjects accidentally

'receiving thoughts' due to an extraordinary circumstance. However,

very few reports are on file of those actually experiencing sending

thoughts. Many have reported thinking about sending thoughts, but

since no results were seen after a few attempts, the effort was given

up.

Usually one does not learn how to swim in just one or two days, and

the same can be said of mental telepathy. Besides controlling certain

parts of your brain, a certain 'feel' must be developed with light, in

the same way a swimmer develops a special 'feel' between the water and

their body moving through it. The partner you wish to develop sight

telepathy with must also have a willingness to devote some time to

experimenting, besides believing telepathy is possible.

An important factor also is to remember that you will be sending your

thoughts on light. Therefore the properties of light should be

researched fully by you, which you can do with books at any library.

Sometimes to develop a talent, it is important to understand the

outside elements that talent is related to, besides your personal

abilities related to the talent.

The night was very dark, with a Full Moon hanging inthe cloud-filled sky above. The air was crisp with the feel of lateAutumn and the doorway between the worlds was wide open. Carved pumpkinssat on the porches of the houses in the little town, and the laughter ofchildren dressed in costumes could be heard from the streets.

It was a sad time for Beth as she climbed the hillbehind her house. In her arms was her cat and friend Smoky, carefullywrapped in his favorite blanket. A little grave was already dug on thehill, waiting, for Smoky had died that day.

"Do you want me to go with you?" Beth's father had asked. "Idug his grave beside MacDougal's at the top of the hill." Bethclearly remembered when their dog MacDougal had died after being hit by a car.

"No, I want to go by myself," sheanswered.

Beth stopped at the top of the hill and knelt besidethe little grave. She carefully laid Smoky's blanket-wrapped form in the earthand covered it with dirt, laying several large rocks on the top. Then shecried and cried.

"Oh, Smoky, I miss you so much?" Bethlooked up at the Moon, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Why did youdie?"

"It was his time to rejoin the Mother,"said a deep, gentle voice in the darkness.

"Who said that?" Beth looked aroundbut saw no one.

"Dying is part of the cycle of life, youknow." One of the boulders on the hill stirred into life.

"Who are you?" The moonlight shonedown on the little woman, and Beth could see she was not human.

"I'm a troll-wife," said the creature asshe came to sit across from Beth. "This is a sad night for both ofus, girl. I, too, came to this hill to bury a friend." Thetroll-wife wiped a crystal tear from her cheek. "The squirrel wasvery old. Still it makes me sad."

Beth stared at the troll-wife. The littlewoman was the color of rock in the moonlight, her hair like long strands ofmoss, her bright eyes like shining crystals. She wore a dress woven ofoak leaves and tree bark.

"The squirrel and I lived together for a longtime," the troll-wife said. "We often talked to your catwhen he was hunting here on the hill. Smoky and I were friends. Ishall miss him, too." The little woman patted Smoky's grave gently," Sleep well, little friend. When you are rested, we shall talktogether again."

"But he's dead," Beth said, her voicechoked with tears.

"Child, this is Samhain. Don't youknow the ancient secrets of this sacred time of year?� The troll-wifemotioned for Beth to come and sit beside her. "It is true that ourfriends have gone into a world where we can no longer physically touch them,but the Mother has given us other ways of communicating with them. We cando this any time, but the time of Samhain is the easiest."

"I don't understand how this can bedone," Beth said, "or why Samhain makes it easier."

"At this time of year," the troll-wifeanswered, "the walls between this world and the world of souls and spiritsare very thin. If we are quiet and listen, we can hear our loved ones andthey can hear us. We talk, not with spoken words, but with the heart andmind."

"Isn't that just imagination?" Bethlooked down at Smoky's grave, tears once more coming into her eyes. "Like my thinking I can feel MacDougal get up on my bed at night like heused to?"

"Sometimes it is, but mostly it is notimagination, only our friends come to see us in their spiritbodies." The troll-wife reached up her hand and patted somethingBeth couldn't see on her shoulder, "Like my friend the raven. He is here now."

Beth looked hard and saw a thin form of hazymoonlight on the troll-wife's shoulder. "I've seen something likethat at the foot of my bed where MacDougal used to sleep." Shewhispered. "I thought I was dreaming." She jumped as somethingnudged her arm. When she looked down, nothing was there.

The troll-wife smiled, "Close you eyes andthink of MacDougal," she said. "He has been waiting a long time foryou to see him."

Beth closed her eyes and, at once, the form of herlittle dog came into her mind. His tail wagged with happiness. Shefelt a wave of love come from him, and she sent her love back. Then shefelt the dog lie down against her leg.

"Can I do this with Smoky?" Bethasked.

"Not yet," the troll-wifeanswered. "He needs to sleep a while and rest. Then he willcome to you. This gives Smoky time to adjust to his new world, and youtime to grieve for him. It is not wrong to grieve, but we must not grieveforever."

"I never thought of it thatway," Beth said. "It's kind of like they moved away, andwe can only talk to them on the phone."

"It is this way with all creatures, not justanimals." The troll-wife stood up and held out a hand to Beth. "Will you join me, human girl? Although I buried my friend squirrel thisnight, I still must dance and sing to all my friends and ancestors who havegone on their journey into the other world. For this is a time to honorthe ancestors."

Beth joined the troll-wife in the ancient slow trolldances around the top of the little hill in the moonlight. She watchedquietly while the troll-wife called out troll-words to the four directions,words Beth couldn't understand. Deep in her heart the girl felt the powerof the strange words and knew they were given in honor and love by the littletroll-wife.

When the troll-wife was finished with her ritual,she hugged Beth. "Go in peace, human child" she said,"And remember what I have told you about the ancient secret ofSamhain."

"I will," Beth answered. "Will I ever see you again?"

"Whenever the Moon is Full, I will behere," the little troll-wife said. "And especially atSamhain."

"I wish I had something to giveyou." Beth hugged the little woman. "You have taught me somuch." She felt the tears come to her eyes again.

"Let us exchange tears for our lostfriends." The troll-wife reached up with a rough finger and caught atear as if fell from Beth's eye. The tear glistened on her finger. The troll-wife gently touched her finger to her cloak, and Beth's tear shonethere like a diamond in the moonlight.

Beth reached up carefully and caught one of thetroll-wife's tears as it slid down her rough cheek. It turned into a realcrystal in her hand.

"Remember the secret of Samhain, and rememberme," the troll-wife said softly as she disappeared into thedarkness. Beth walked back down the hill, the crystal clutched in herhand. Her father was waiting on her on the porch.

"Are you all right?" her father askedas he gave Beth a hug.

"I will be," she answered. She openedher hand under the porch light and saw a perfect, tear-shaped crystal lyingthere.

"Did you find something?" her fatherasked.

"Atroll-tear," Beth answered, and her father smiled. For he alsoknew the little troll-wife and the secret of Samhain.
