We've all seen her. We all love her. She's Elvira, the Mistress of the Dark. And she is one of our more popular links here at IAmAWitch.Com.
We figured that with a major refit of IAmAWitch.Com, who better to cast in the star role of Site of the Month than Elvira? Especially in October!
Elvira has been around the scene for a long time and she's as fresh as ever with a cool site that has a lot to offer. The site offers a Movie page, What's New, About Elvira, Fun House, Halloween, Merchandise, Fan Club, Guest Registry and a Contacts page. Simple left navigation and an appropriate amount of content and imagery round out what is a very manageable and yet fun site that is themed to Elvira's spirit and message to a T.
Some of her memorable firsts are noted below:
First nationally syndicated horror host show.
First person to be broadcast in 3-D in America.
First female celebrity to do a national beer campaign.
First celebrity to market their own beer (AJ asks: Where do I get this stuff?)
First female to twirl tassels on a national network.
First person to produce a music video in large format 3-D.
You can visit her site at http://www.elvira.com and we certainly hope to see her for many years to come!
I was surprised as I checked the site out, that Elvira will now have checks with her images on them. Yes, you too can have her image on your checks... See the "What's New" section and you'll see the latest on this offering:
The current text for this offering reads:
Coming soon! Make a statement...a BANK statement!
Take Elvira shopping with your own personalized Elvira Checks.
People will exclaim "Is that Elvira in your pocket book or are you just happy to see me?""
This is a beautifully constructed web site with an interesting menu with mouseovers aligned with an image of the crescent moon in the background.
Bewitching Ways introductory paragraph states: "Welcome to Bewitching Ways, a site that will work to provide an online community as well as bring you all you need to aid you in the practice of The Craft. Here you'll find spells, rituals, moon phases, herb and stone meanings, color and day correspondents, planetary and astrological sign meanings, Tarot definitions, etc. If you can't find it, let us know and we'll try to get it."

It is so odd how serendipity works. While searching a regular news site for another subject, I accidently ran into Circle of the African Moon.
This site had an article called "I Am a Witch" that drew my eye (for obvious reasons!) in my random search and I clicked it to see what this unusual find was all about. To this end, I'm glad I did click this link, because I learned about an aspect of the Craft that I was not aware of. Wicca in mother Africa! South Africa that is!
Visiting this site, one is taken with the seeming simplicity of the site. The true surprise is when you begin surfing the site and discover a huge amount of content in this well organized and obviously well-cared for site!

Finding Witches these days is always a challenge, and luckily for us, some enterprising Pagan folks got together and created the Witches Meetup site at http://witches.meetup.com!
As of this writing, 966 meetup groups exist, with over 31,500 members in the system. The site is a complete match up system that provides the ability for a user to subscribe to one or more groups, and to track local groups to join through simply viewing the group lists, or by entering your zip code into the system and viewing the closest matches!
Some might ask: "WHY!!!" To this, I answer, "Why not?"
Now, most other web sites follow the trend to lean left, and only left (forgetting there are exceptions to ALL rules), and here we have a case where Pagan Republicans follow the hallowed Pagan tradition of being innovators, thinking outside the norm, and pushing the boundaries. Is it not the case that our very Pagan movement is constructed on these very foundations and principles? I do believe so!
Yes my friends: We Pagan Republicans do exist, like Blue moons that happen twice in a year, or Unicorns who mysteriously appear and reappear hither and fore.
And we exist in numbers large enough for a "greater than expected" minority within a minority, so I'm featuring this site to encourage dialogue and friendly chat with like minded Pagans.
To this end, it would be a great opportunity for our friends on the other side of the aisle to meet and talk with some nice people who actually listen and care to hear other opinions.
Some will indeed find a bit of discontent in seeing Witches out there who don't fit the so-called 'norm" for Witches, but there is indeed diversity and plurality, going in more than one direction. And in this, we give thanks to the Goddess for her wisdom in balanced views and sensible and diverse opinions amongst all. We encourage open and sensible disagreement and debate.
I needed a little humor to remind me (in this obsessed election news cycle, which I now compare to a four year cycle of cicadias emerging to drown us in noise with no end, along with never-ending "news grabbers" about Craft people banning Halloween, and just strangeness in general) THAT people and Witches STILL could have fun... Yes! It is possible that the world will still exist after this election is finished!
So... I did a quick search for something to make me laugh and found this: The Pagan Radio Network!
I opened my email today and found a wonderful letter from one Lisa Iris, who kindly offered her permission to use her graphics on IAmAWitch.Com for stories and the like!
Until this point in time, I had not realized she is the artist on a couple of Silver RavenWolf classics like "To Ride A Silver Broomstick" and "To Light a Sacred Flame"!!! She is an exceptional talent and artist!
Well... To make a long story short, I visited her site and truly was amazed at her talent. So much so, that I made it the site of the month for October 2004!
In Lisa's own words:
"Love and art will triumph if we use our lives to create peace; happiness for ourselves and others. This is now the hope for my life. I paint sublime beings to portray the profoundly human, our quest for compassion, wisdom and courage - Lisa Iris."
Brightest Of Blessings !!! I wanted to share the Mabon Edition of Spirit Of The Witch with all of you . I hope that you enjoy it.
A sample of the article on Mabon:
As I begin to write this article, I'm sitting on my balcony watching the birds in my backyard. I've noticed that they have become more peaceful than in the summer when they seemed to be so busy and energetic with their songs to each other. They are preparing for the cold months ahead. There is a little chill in the air this morning, so I've decided to put on a sweater. The air is fresh and somewhat crisp, a sure sign that Autumn is on it's way ,my favorite time of the year !

We normally only profile Pagan related web sites on IAmAWitch, but this month, we ran quite by accident into a site that is so useful, that I just had to feature it for all to see.
The site is called EHow.Com and it's name belies it's purpose. Instructions and ideas for almost every facet of life, from "how to greet the Dalai Lama" to a complete section on learning to invest wisely.
I naturally checked their religion section, but there was only the predictable range of mainstream religions. Even so, I didn't hold this against the site, since the rest of it is so useful. Given the fact that we often use the web to find information to help us, it is certainly neat to find a site that has addressed this common human need to have general guidelines to just about any topic in a single convienient package.
