Steps to Near-Painless
determination of the Planetary Hours for your Magickal Workings...
Why should I even use these?
By now you may be thinking this is
too much hassle. However, there are three good reasons for calculating
planetary influences:
Our On-Line Version is
here!
Find out the Times of Sunrise
and Sunset in your area ( Get these now or enter them from your newspaper or
almanac).
Now input the time for Sunrise
and Sunset into the form below, and then select the correct day of the week to
match the Sunrise/Sunset time you are using.

the planetary hours...
The Reasons!
By calculating these planetary
influences you step closer to a successful working, especially if other things
can't, don't, or won't fall into line for you
It adds extra kick to minor magicks.
It can give success if you're sick
but still must perform anyway.
What ARE Planetary Hours?
Working with planetary hours can be very
helpful to your workings... If you cannot wait until the right moon phase or
time, then you can just hop onto the next appropriate day and planetary hour to
get things rolling!
The seemingly universal accepted way to
calculate planetary hours is to divide a 24 hour day in to two 12 hour units:
Sunrise to Sunset
Sunset to Sunrise
The Sun and the six planets (which can
be observed by the naked eye) are used as the correspondences - each to an hour
of the day. This leaves plenty of room to work since you get a couple of
chances to work with those influences in either the day or the evening. The
going theory is that these influences are helpful to magickal workings when
timed correctly.
Since ancient times, these six planets
and the Sun have been held to rule over the days of the week. The relationships
are mapped out below:
Saturday -- Saturn
Sunday -- Sol
Monday -- Luna
Tuesday -- Mars
Wednesday -- Mercury
Thursday -- Jupiter
Friday -- Venus.
The whole point is that the planetary
forces are not only attributed to the days, but to the hours as well, in this
scheme: the hour after sunrise is ruled by the planet of the day. For example,
sunrise on Saturday begins the rulership of Saturn for one hour. The following
hour is ruled by the next "fastest" planet, Jupiter, and after that, Mars, and
so on. Seven hours after sunrise is the rulership of Luna, after which, it's
Saturn's turn again. Following this logic, you can see that 22 hours after
sunrise comes Saturn again, then 23 -- Jupiter, and 24 -- Mars. Which means
that the first hour of the following day is ruled by the Sun, and that day is
Sunday.

This pattern continues around the week
until it recycles on itself and starts again. This is in fact the reason that
the days of the week are ordered as they are, though almost everyone has
forgotten this.
The influences are calculated by using
the rising and setting sun times. This is just about all the information you
need to get started as you can see in the form above. The mathematics can be a
bit challenging to some people, but we have taken the work out of it for you
with our little Perl script.
